Esther Kamau’s research focuses on improving employment outcomes for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). She is co-principal investigator on a project examining employment strategies at the state, provider, and individual levels, using storytelling to promote the replication of best practices.

Esther supports successful transition outcomes for youth with IDD by fostering collaboration among local partners. Her work is grounded in participatory research methods. She brings extensive experience working with communities in the US and internationally, both as a researcher and practitioner. Prior to joining ICI, Esther led efforts across countries to advance the community engagement of people with disabilities and people living in poverty.
