We’re Hiring! The Institute for Community Inclusion is Hiring a New Director

The Institute for Community Inclusion (ICI) at the University of Massachusetts Boston (UMass Boston) is hiring a new director to lead us into 2026.

The ICI supports the rights of people with disabilities to participate in all aspects of society. We promote systems change and partner with people with disabilities, their families, and communities to advocate for personal choice and self-determination.

Our new director will be responsible for implementing the ICI’s mission and upholding our values. They will lead an expert staff who represent a wide range of knowledge in the disability field and build the leadership and global presence of the ICI. This equity-minded leader will shape future directions and drive growth by cultivating new funding opportunities and forging strategic partnerships—both within and beyond the University. Key collaborators will include the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD), the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD), and Boston Children’s Hospital.

ICI’s new director will hold a tenure-track faculty appointment in our college’s Department of Counseling, School Psychology, and Sport. All applicants must have a PhD or other doctorate degree and a minimum of 10 years of experience and demonstrated leadership in a multidisciplinary center at a disability or related organization.

A qualified candidate will have:

  • experience leading a complex organization with a distributed workforce of 100+ staff in dynamic roles
  • experience & expertise securing external funding from public and private sources
  • experience & expertise developing and implementing strategic planning and organizational partnerships
  • prior university teaching, grantsmanship, administrative, research, management, and leadership experience
  • a history of contributions to the disability field
  • the ability to organize, manage, prioritize, and ensure effective completion of multiple projects

ICI’s work encompasses research, program evaluation, training, consultation, education, policy analysis, information sharing, and service delivery across four main areas of emphasis: employment, education, community life, and health care.
