The institute for Community Inclusion: employment, education, community life and health care

The ADA Education & Reform Act

The Institute for Community Inclusion is calling on Congress to vote down HR 620 – The ADA Education and Reform Act.

Businesses have already had 28 years to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Yet, under this bill, if an individual feels that a business has violated their right to public access under the ADA, the individual would be required to file an accessibility complaint against the business in a highly specific format. The businesses would then have 60 days to respond to the complaint, and another 120 days to comply if found to be in violation of the ADA.

This type of burdensome delay in complying with the ADA is unacceptable, and we are asking members of Congress during Thursday’s expected vote to say no to this proposed diminishing of the civil rights of people with disabilities.

The Family Engagement in Online Employment Planning Intervention is looking for parents of a student with an intellectual and/or developmental disability to participate in a study to see how Facebook Messenger might be used as an effective tool to coach families on planning for employment. This study uses Facebook Messenger, as well as The Arc's Build Your Plan tool, to see how a well-planned and individualized engagement strategy might improve families' beliefs about employment for their family member with IDD. Please share this flyer with anyone you know who might be interested.
