AUCD Critiques President’s FY 2019 Budget

The Association of University Centers on Disabilities, or AUCD, shared an analysis on its website of how the budget proposal released by President Trump to Congress will impact people with disabilities.

The ICI is a member of AUCD because we are a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities, or UCEDD. The proposed budget includes a $6M (15%) cut to UCEDD funding.

“The President's budget turns back the last 50 years of progress made in empowering people with disabilities,” said Tom Sannicandro, the director of the ICI. “When funding to multiple essential programs is cut like this, it makes it harder for people with disabilities to hold jobs and be independent contributors to their communities.”

The Family Engagement in Online Employment Planning Intervention is looking for parents of a student with an intellectual and/or developmental disability to participate in a study to see how Facebook Messenger might be used as an effective tool to coach families on planning for employment. This study uses Facebook Messenger, as well as The Arc's Build Your Plan tool, to see how a well-planned and individualized engagement strategy might improve families' beliefs about employment for their family member with IDD. Please share this flyer with anyone you know who might be interested.
