The New England Job Development Training Program (NEJDTP) teaches innovative approaches to job development and customized employment, including person-centered career planning, networking, business partnerships, accommodations, and system integration. Through course work, fieldwork, mentorship, and distance learning, students develop their knowledge of person-centered career planning, networking, business partnerships, accommodations, and system integration. Students who complete the program, will receive an academic certificate from the Continuing Education Department at UMass Boston. Students with at least two years of college, may also earn three graduate credits per semester the UMass Boston Graduate Rehabilitation Counseling Department.

Program Goals. Upon completion students will be able to:

  • Lead comprehensive career planning sessions
  • Manage and customize job development approach for job seekers
  • Design a customized strategy to meeting business needs through organizational assessment and relationship-building
  • Plan and teach a networking course for job seekers
  • Market job seekers' abilities and negotiate with employers to create a successful job match and placement
  • Assemble community resources for benefits, legal rights, and accommodations
